Message From The NPHC President

Ten years ago the leadership of the Nassau, Bahamas Council of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. saw the need to recognize those talented and academically astute primary school students who stood at the threshold of their high school careers. This recognition became known as the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year awards programme. Today, ten years later, the programme is organized through the Bahamas Primary School Student of The Year Foundation established under the able leadership of immediate past council president, Cyndi Rahming.

As local council president, I am honoured to be associated with both organizations, the NPHC Council for having giving birth to the programme and the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation for all the work it does to support the students. The foundation realizes that if we want a better Bahamas, we must develop not just bigger and better buildings, airports or seaports, but that we must develop bigger and better minds. We must encourage our youngsters to reach further and to accomplish more through scholarship. The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Programme sets the pace and has now created a culture among primary school students which demands of them, their best performance, not just in academics but also in their extra curricular activities. In order for this culture to continue, the young students need encouragement and support.

The Local Council stands with the Foundation to applaud the accomplishments of our young achievers while at the same time we say to them continue to strive for academic excellence. The programme has brought members of all Greek Lettered Fraternities and Sororities together to ensure the continued success of this awards programme. I commend those NPHC members who serve as Directors of the Foundation’s Board, Sub committee members, Individual and corporate scholarship sponsors and supporters. We have proven that though we belong to separate organizations as our Pan-Hellenic mandate requires of us, we can and have worked together to take this programme to a whole new level.

Sincerely yours,

Mavis Johnson-Collie
President

Nassau, Bahamas Council
National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc.
