Message From The President & CEO

Mr Ricardo Deveaux Chairman

The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program has once again provided another group of outstanding young people of our country with an enviable recognition of being highlighted among the “Who’s Who in Primary Schools in The Bahamas”. In November 1996, when I presented the idea to the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council for the hosting of this premier awards scheme, I never imagined the impact that this program would have on our community. This Awards Program has targeted young people at the primary school level who were not being nationally recognized for their achievements in academics, sports, leadership and extra-curricular activities. Ten years later, we are excited to announce that over 750 students have been recognized and over $120,000.00 given in scholarships and prizes to encourage our students to continue to propel towards greatness.

This Awards Program has truly evolved since 1997; 31 students representing New Providence schools with no scholarship dollars to the present when 103 students represented Abaco, Acklins, Andros, Berry Island, Bimini, Eleuthera, Exuma, Grand Bahama, Inagua, Long Island, Mayaguana and New Providence and competed for some $80,000.00 in scholarships and prizes. In addition, I am excited that in 2007, we highlighted the achievements of some of the students who participants in this program over the past ten years. It is truly evident that this program has captured the “crème de le crème”, the future “movers” and “shakers” in this country.

On behalf of the Patrons, Chairman and Members Board of Directors of the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation and the Officers and Members of the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council, we are pleased to have been given this awesome challenge to recognize and reward the talent of our younger achievers in this country. We are extremely grateful to have been joined in partnership in this venture by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth, our corporate partners, parents and guardians and school administrators who saw the benefit of highlighting the accomplishments of the individuals who are our future leaders. We look forward to your continued partnership, as we promote excellence among these students.
