
2006 Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year
George F. D. Zonicle
The Bahamas of Directors of The Bahamas Primary school Student of the Year
Foundation and the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council, along with the Distinguished Panel of Judges are pleased to recognize George F. D. Zonicle, a sixth
grade student at Bahamas Academy Elementary School as the 2006 Bahamas Primary
School Student of the Year. Disciplined, intelligent and sociable, are just a few words
that can be used to describe this gifted twelve-year old.
The Members of the Judging Panel felt that George demonstrated the qualities of
academic excellence, leadership development and community service. Ms. Carol
Jackson, his Grade 6 Teacher noted that “His intelligence has been like a beam of light
shining forth through his academic excellence in his elementary school life”. His
diligence in his studies has seen his maintaining first position in all his classes from
Grade 1 – Grade 5. His current Grade Point Average is a 4.00.
George is an active member of the Centreville Seventh-day Adventist Church and
its Pathfinders Club. He is a former participant in the National Arts Festival placing
forth. He also uses his talents to cheer up the elderly and “shut-in” members of his
church as well as members of the community, in such places as the Mary Ingraham
Home for the Aged.
Dr. Cheryl Rolle, Principal of Bahamas Academy said that “George possesses
admirable leadership qualities and is positive role model for his peers. When asked why
he should be chosen as the 2006 Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year, he said
that “I believe that this prestigious organization is looking for a good balance between
excellent performance at school as well as in the church and community. I would be
honoured to be chosen as “The 2006 Primary School Student of the Year” because I
truly believe that, even at this young age in my life, I have been able to accomplish
many things and continue to display many of the qualities that the Foundation is
looking for.”
Basketball is his best sporting activity. He has been a faithful participant at the
Jeff Rodgers Basketball Camp from the tender age of 5. He is a member of the
Centreville’s Junior Basketball Team and a Member of his school’s Track and Field
Team.
Our 2006 Student of the Year is the son of Charles and Deborah Zoincle.
