Each year, a select group of students are nominated to accept one of the most prestigious national recognitions for primary school students in this country. This Awards Program, which is the premier program for primary school students, is an excellent opportunity to recognize students who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement, leadership ability, campus and community involvement and good citizenship.

Since 1997, The Board of Directors of The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation and the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council have remained steadfast in its efforts to showcase the talents of our younger achievers not only on New Providence but throughout the archipelago of The Bahamas. In November 2009, The Foundation presented each primary school in New Providence, Grand Bahama and the Family Islands with an application package to nominate one deserving student for this national recognition. We are excited that 106 primary schools have accepted this golden opportunity to have their students nationally recognized as the BEST and BRIGHTEST in our school system. We are indeed grateful to the principals, administrators and teachers who saw the benefit of having their students recognized at this level. You are commended for assisting in showcasing our future leaders.

This awards ceremony is a celebration of the successes of our students, and also an acknowledge- ment of the invaluable role of the teachers and parents in the process of supporting, nurturing and encouraging these students in their pursuits for excellence. Thanks for allowing the Foundation to showcase your most important “ASSETS”.

We are grateful to our corporate and individual donors for their generous support of the Foundation’s efforts to recognize our star students. Despite the tough economic challenges, our donors still decided that for the youth of The Bahamas, this investment was necessary. Without your support, we would not be able to offer the scholarships, prizes and airline tickets to our nominees and host this awards program.

We would also like to salute The Government of The Bahamas through the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture for providing their partnership in this effort. Thanks for giving the Foundation the support needed to organize this monumental task.

Finally, congratulations to all of our 2010 nominees. This recognition is well earned and you are encouraged to continue to make a difference in your studies and extra-curricular pursuits. Remember, each of you is already a winner because you made it this far.
