2007 Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year
Taran Carey

The Bahamas of Directors of The Bahamas Primary school Student of the Year Foundation and the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council, along with the Distinguished Panel of Judges are pleased to recognize a strong individual with promise and potential as the 2007 Bahamas Primary School, Student-of-the-Year. He is Taran Jay Carey, a handsome 11 year old student, proudly representing, Tarpum Bay Primary School, on the island of freedom, Eleuthera.

As a student he is extremely efficient and very industrious. His work habits and work ethics are outstanding. Taran has maintained a very high standard of excellence throughout his primary school career, maintaining a 4.00 Grade Point Average.

Johnny L. Butler, his Principal noted that "He is a remarkable student, hardworking, well-motivated, organized in his study, intellectualy curious and resourceful. His outstanding qualities and leadership abilities have enabled him to be appointed prefect supervisor".

Taran is Head Prefect at his school, official member of the Eleuthera Junior Sluggers Baseball League Association, where he is the first baseman and a member of the school's softball team. He is also the lead bass drummer for his school's Junior Junkanoo Festival.

His awards and honours includes: Top student in Grade 1- 5; perfect attendance in Grades 1,2,3 and 5; Highest GLAT scores in 2004; Highest District Exam Award in Grade 5 and the Inter-house Competition Winner in Bible, Spelling and Math.

Taran is an active Sunday School Student of the Faith Temple Tabernacle of God. He is a Praise and Worship Leader, Member of the Youth Choir and Bible Reader at his church. He has demonstrated his compassion by serving as a Delivery Boy for the community shut-ins.

His vision for a better Bahamas is to see a land free of hate and safer for all citizens, one that every Bahamian can be proud of.

Our 2007 Student of the Year is the son of David and Sherrelle Carey.
