Awards Criteria

How do I nominate my student ?

Each primary school is eligible to nominate ONE (1) Six Grade Student for the annual Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program

 

The school nomination process is INDEPENDENT of the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation

Each applicant is required to submit:

  • Completed Application Form ( Must submit the official application form); 
    Copy of Official Report Card covering the past two years; 
    Three Passport Size Photos; 
    Newspaper Clippings / Copies of Awards & Certificates (Covering the last two years)
    Three (3) letters of recommendation *

  • School Principal / Vice-Principal  Classroom Teacher / Civic or Community  Leader / Former Teacher 
    Religious Leader / Sports Coach

  • The above items must be neatly attached in a portfolio or folder.

  • The portfolio / folder is limited to a maximum of 50 pages.

Guidelines for submission of the Nominee's portfolio:

 

  • The portfolio / folder is limited to a maximum of 50 pages.

  • The portfolio should reflect the work of the nominee.

  • The dimension should not be larger than 12" x 12". 

  • The portfolio should be void of any mechanical nature. 

  • The portfolio is limited to one presentation void of any flash drive; CD etc.

  • If the portfolio is professionally bounded. The original essays; transcripts and letters of reference should be placed in a folder or envelope accompanying the portfolio.

  • Be mindful that the work presented is demonstrating the nominee's ability and critical thinking and not submitting something that appears 'artistic'.

  • Avoid portfolios that are prototypes or 3 dimensional (POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED)

Important Information

Applications forms missing any of the above items will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed or accepted;

 

An Independent Distinguished Panel of Judges will review the application packages received and determine the overall winner and finalists. THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES IS FINAL.

 

Nominees will be judged on the following criteria: contribution to school life, academic achievement, extra-curricular achievement, community involvement, and overall quality of the portfolio submitted.  

 

Nominees will be competing for scholarships and prizes. All scholarships must be used for secondary education purposes only.

 

The Contest is open to any 6th Grade Student regardless of colour, creed, nationality or religious affiliation from any private, public or independent school in New Providence and the Family Islands.  Students must be nominated by their respective schools to participate in the Awards Program.

 

Application packages for the 2023 (27th Annual) Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program became available November 1st, 2022

 

The Deadline for submission of completed Application Packages for the 2023 Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program is Friday, February 3rd, 2023 at 4pm. 

 

 The Foundation will not be responsible for application packages that are late, lost, illegible, destroyed, or incorrectly addressed entries for any reason.

 

All Application Packages must be received by the deadline.  One (1) student from each school will be allowed as a nominee.  

 

All entries become the property of The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation and will not be returned. Parents and/or students are encouraged to make a copy of the package submitted.

 

All Nominees in the Awards Program will be published in the Commemorative Souvenir Journal and highlighted on our website. All Nominees must agree to allow The Foundation to publish their accomplishments. 

 

Failure to accept these conditions will render the nominee ineligible.
